Extra info about this vessel:
Interesting vessel, the container ship MSC BALEARES has its origins in Standard Oil's 1942-built tanker ESSO RALEIGH. In 1962 she was converted to a container ship for Sea-Land and named SAN JUAN. During conversion a new mid-section was added. The SAN JUAN was one of the earliest cellular container ships in service and was eventually scrapped in Japan in 1978. However, the mid-section fitted in 1962 survived and was used in the construction of the SEA-LAND PACER.
Scrapped in Alang, India June 2009
