built in Canada as a "Fort" class merchant cargo, the Canadian equivalent of the "Liberty" class. The ship was acquired by the Royal Navy shortly after her completion and converted into a repair ship and served in that role well into the 1970's. She was then decommissioned into reserve and moored in Portsmouth Harbor where she was selected by the Special Boat Service for regular use as a training ship for Close Quarters Battle (CQB) drills, ship boarding techniques and underwater demolition exercises. She served this role through March 2008 |
