On 21/01/2019, while transferring LPG from the vessel Candy (LPG tanker, IMO: 9005479) to the Maestro, an explosion occurred, the fire spread to both ships.
The death toll was high, of the 32 sailors, only 12 were rescued by Russians salvage vessels.
For fear of further explosions, it was decided to let the LPG cargo consume so that the blaze would burn out, after 44 days of initial explosion, both vessels were declared total loss
The Candy was allowed to be towed. She was beached in Aliaga (TR) on 31/07/2019.
The Maestro was towed 06/05/2019, but during the Istanbul Strait passage, the passage permission and towage approval were suspended by Turkish authorities due to legal incident investigation filed against the owners of the vessel
On 10/05/2019, the vessel was shifted from the Istanbul Strait to Haydarpasa and arrested by both the Harbour Master and the Public Prosecutor. The vessel's departure and towage permissions has been cancelled by Turkish Authorities until the completion of legal steps.
